A closer look at Castle Otttis ~ Wordless Wednesday #16 (with a few words)

~Castle Otttis, St. Augustine, Florida~
~A hidden gem~
~Christian symbolism throughout the castle~
Modeled after a castle in Ireland and inspired by a dream
~Like an Irish Abbey~
~Tours are available by appointment only~
The owner, Rusty, shares many stories about how the castle came to be and so much more!
“…all the grace of the window is in the outline of its light…”~John Ruskin
~The Lion of Judah on the staircase wall~
~A beautiful painting, created with wood oil~
~The heart of the castle~
~A magnificent Landscape Sculpture~

“When we build, let us think that we build forever. Let it not be for present delight nor for present use alone. Let it be such work as our descendants will thank us for; and let us think, as we lay stone on stone, that a time is to come when those stones will be held sacred because our hands have touched them, and that men will say, as they look upon the labor and wrought substance of them, ‘See! This our fathers did for us.” ~John Ruskin (quote that is on the foundation by the door of the castle)

If you ever visit St. Augustine, you might sneak a peek of the castle as you are driving north on A1A from Vilano Beach. Until next time, have a great week!

    1. Pam, the castle was built back in the mid-80s in Vilano, right off A1A … it’s not a “tourist” attraction per se … but the owner does do public tours, by appointment only. It’s really cool to see up close and inside:)
