One of my favorite things about living close to the beach is being able to get up early and witness a beautiful sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean. There is nothing quite like it … (well, I would include beautiful sunsets too!) One morning in June, my husband and I decided to get up early and go see the sunrise. I brought my new camera (I am just learning how to use it, and I’m not a professional, I simply like taking photos for fun!) We didn’t know we were in for a real surprise … a HUGE sun breaking above the horizon, that looked like it was just melting away from the ocean. According to National Geographic, the point where a body of water touches the horizon is called offing (AH-finhng). It’s the deep part of the sea you can view when you are standing on the beach. You’ll see in some of the photos below I was able to capture the sun at that point … it was pretty amazing to see with the naked eye as well. Hope you enjoy my photos and maybe they will inspire you to get up early one day and watch the sunrise.
The beginning of the sunrise … just as the sun was coming over the horizon.

Ok, get ready for the WOW …
Isn’t it magnificent? I know my photos are not completely crisp … but I was amazed that I was actually able to catch the sun just over the ocean like that … I love how it looks as though the sun is melting into the ocean.
If I didn’t know I was looking at a sunrise above the ocean, I look at the photos above and I think of a “planet” and it almost looks surreal or as if I’m in the future. I just love how photos can capture such a unique view of our world.

The beach early in the morning is a perfect place to think, pray, and ponder … one of my favorite scriptures that comes to mind while enjoying this view is “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105
St. Augustine’s beaches are beautiful and they make for a perfect place to view the sunrise. Wish I lived on the beach so I could see it everyday, so beautiful… but I’m thankful we live very close so we can drive there whenever we want.
